Construction Opportunities

Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Limited, based at our Head Office in Flimby (Cumbria) are a major contractor for the construction of building and civil engineering projects within Cumbria and beyond.

Our Clients range from small, individual organisations through to large multi-national companies, local authorities and housing associations.

Our building projects include both traditional and modern methods of construction. With Environmental issues becoming a key consideration for many clients, we have experience in delivering projects and schemes that meet the national construction standards.

We are seeking to recruit the following experienced personnel to complement our successful award winning team:


PROJECT MANAGER (Construction)

To manage the day to day running of a Construction Project Site to ensure the project is delivered to programme and to the client’s specification and that work practices are compliant with prevailing legislation.  The Project Manager is responsible for the implementation and compliance of the Company’s policies on site, including adherence to the Company’s Health & Safety, Quality & Environmental Management Systems.


SITE MANAGER (Construction)

To manage the day to day running of a Construction Project Site to ensure the project is delivered to programme and to the client’s specification and satisfaction and that work practices are compliant with all relevant legislation.  The Site Manager is responsible for the implementation and compliance of the Company’s policies and procedures on site including adherence to the Company’s Business Management System.  The Site Manager will deliver Inductions and appropriate Toolbox Talks.


QUANTITY SURVEYOR/ SENIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR (Construction & Private Development)

To manage allocated Contracts in a quantity surveying capacity, ensuring the Company’s policies and procedures and Business Management System are followed.  The Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor will ensure the contract is delivering the optimum value for the Company, and that the Contract’s costs and current value are reported to management accurately and in a timely manner.   The QS/SQS will publish relevant documents to Union Square and use 4PS system to process relevant payments.

WHEELED LOADING SHOVEL / 8 TONNE FORKLIFT TRUCK OPERATOR

LOCATION: Rowlands Gill, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear

We are seeking to recruit a wheeled loading shovel/8 tonne forklift truck operator to work at our manufacturing Plant based at Rowlands Gill, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear.  

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established company working in the Concrete Block Production Industry.

The ideal candidate will be experienced and hold the relevant tickets for the operation of the above plant. Training will be given for all other aspects of the job.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 2 shift rotation –

                           week 1- 06:00 to 15:30, week 2 - 10:30 to  20:00

ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT

LOCATION: Head Office, Flimby, Maryport

We are seeking to recruit an experienced Accounts Assistant to join a well-established and highly respected company working within the Construction Industry.

Full time working hours (08:30 – 16:30 Monday to Thursday, Friday 08:30 – 16:00)

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Subcontractor ledger – invoice processing, CIS returns;
  • Processing weekly BACS payments;
  • Accounts payable;
  • Accounts receivable;
  • Cash Management;
  • Bank Reconciliations;
  • Dealing with general enquiries;
  • Year-end processes and assisting Auditors;
  • System maintenance and development;
  • Assistance with costings;
  • Other ad-hoc accounts and administrative tasks as required.


Skills, Attributes & Qualifications:

LGV DRIVER WITH CRANE EXPERIENCE

CASUAL GATEHOUSE SECURITY GUARD

LOCATION: Flimby, Maryport

COMPANY: Thomas Armstrong (Holdings) Ltd

TYPE: Part Time, Temporary

SALARY: £8.91 per hour

We are looking to recruit a “Casual” Security Guard to cover various holiday shifts and any emergency leave that may arise.  You will be required to work 12 hours shifts which can vary between days, nights and weekends.  

 

An SIA Licence and previous experience in corporate security is preferred but not essential.  

 

As you will be our first point of contact for staff and visitors, it is essential that you are friendly, polite and smartly dressed.  You need to be familiar with electronic technology (i.e. telephone, Microsoft Outlook, CCTV monitoring/operating).

 

Health and Safety is paramount whilst working on site and is crucial that all policies and procedures are followed, you will be provided with full site training and relevant PPE.

 

To be considered, you will need:

  • Industry experience and background in security (preferred);
  • Willingness to be flexible in working hours;
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication;
  • Able to maintain effective records/monitoring systems;
  • An enthusiastic, self-motivated and flexible approach;
  • Ability to work as part of a team, but also on own initiative.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring all security requirements are met in line with site instructions including monitoring of CCTV surveillance systems;
  • Access and egress control via access barriers and pedestrian gates;
  • Booking HGV’s and staff vehicles in and out of site;
  • Conducting patrols if and when required;
  • Dealing with site staff and visitors in a professional manner;
  • Completing any necessary paperwork and reporting;
  • Supervise and control site access.

CLEANER REQUIRED 

LOCATION: Flimby, Maryport

We are looking to appoint an experienced Cleaner to join our existing cleaning team to work in our Head Office at Flimby, Maryport

 

Salary £ 8.98 per hour


Hours of work are 5:00pm – 7:30pm Monday to Thursday

                              4:00pm – 6:30pm Friday (12½ hours per week)

 

As an office cleaner you will use cleaning equipment and supplies to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the office environment.  

 

Main duties include: basic cleaning in and around offices, rest rooms and toilets - sweeping, mopping floors, vacuuming carpeted areas. Clean, dust and wipe down surfaces and emptying bins.  You will also need to wipe down and clean, touch points, skirting, windows, and ledges.

SALES ESTIMATOR

LOCATION: Flimby, Maryport

We are currently looking for a dedicated, reliable and enthusiastic person to join our small specialist team based at Flimby, Maryport.

 

Reporting directly to the Sales Manager, the Sales Estimator will be a key collaborator for new and existing relationships for estimating, bidding providing an advanced manufacturing solution that delivers high-quality and cost-effective products.

 

As Sales Estimator you will be responsible for analysing leads and ensuring there is a full understanding of the customer requirements.

 

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Creation of accurate and timely quotes;
  • Communicate with the client to clarify any points that are not clear;
  • Build and cost the quote (on the in-house configurator system);
  • Send the quote to the customer by email Via our in-house quotes system;
  • Record all relevant information in the company system and set up follow ups;
  • Follow up the quote at regular intervals by phone or email to ensure the deal is closed and won in a timely manner;
  • Undertake any revisions and changes as per the customer request;
  • Prepare final order confirmation and send to customer for approval;
  • Discuss with the customer payment options and agree the best way forward;
  • Care for the customer and the enquiry through from receiving the lead to order;
  • Liaise with our designers and factory for manufacture.

 

Skills, attributes and qualifications:

  • Good telephone manner and professional approach to customers;
  • Good written/administration skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • An basic understanding of estimation tools and techniques (i.e. the processes of estimating resources, durations and costs);
  • Technically minded – desirable;
  • Experience in interacting with customers in a sales/estimating environment;
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written;
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills;
  • Commercially aware;
  • Full driving licence preferred but not essential.

LOCATION: Trafford Park, Manchester

Main duties include

Main duties include: Production Operative/ Fork Lift Truck / Labourer

 

Hours of work: 6am – 2pm and 2pm - 10pm (shift pattern under alternate weeks)

You will be required to work overtime as and when necessary during busy times.

 

In return, we offer a competitive rate of pay plus shift allowance.
