Washington Homes Ltd development wins second prestigious construction award

A NEW Washington Homes development in Tallentire has been named among a shortlist of sites in England and Wales to win an award for high standards of construction and site management.

Chestnut Close, built by Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd (part of the Thomas Armstrong Group) has been awarded The Bricks Site Recognition Award by LABC Warranty, for its standards of workmanship and overall management of the site, including health and safety matters and general tidiness.

Washington Homes Ltd has already won this prestigious award for their Woodside Park development in Wigton in May this year and Butterfields in Brigham in 2020.

The Bricks Site Recognition Award winners are chosen every month and are then further shortlisted at the end of the year, where only the best of those sites will be rewarded with The Bricks annual award trophy, one of the construction industry’s most prestigious awards given to outstanding sites from England and Wales.

LABC Warranty is one of the largest providers of structural warranties in the UK. Working in partnership with Local Authority Building Control (LABC), its combined team of more than 3,700 surveyors work with house builders, contractors and housing associations.

Sites are scored by LABC Warranty risk management surveyors during their inspection visits, which take place regularly through construction.

Those sites that score consistently high for general co-operation with inspectors, health and safety, site tidiness, standard of site management standard of workmanship are nominated for a Site Recognition Award.

Chestnut Close development lies on the edge of Tallentire, enjoying a lovely rural village setting with extensive views opening up towards Tallentire Hill and surrounding countryside including glimpses towards the Solway coastline and Irish Sea. The village lies just 3 ½ miles from Cockermouth and this development features just 11 new build houses for sale setting a striking approach to contemporary living. It includes a great choice of styles including two, three and four bedroom designs, detached and semi-detached with a variety of stone and rendered finishes, all set in attractive landscaped surroundings. Due to popular demand, Chestnut Close development has already sold but available plots are still available at Woodside Park in Wigton.

David Hill, Development Manager from Washington Homes Ltd said: “We’re delighted to receive The Bricks Site Recognition Award from LABC Warranty. I’m especially pleased for our staff working on the site as this reward is a recognition of their hard work, professionalism and expertise.”

Sarah Sheppard, Technical Director at LABC Warranty, said: “It takes skill, commitment and a dedication to quality of construction for a site to receive The Bricks Site Recognition Award. Nothing pleases my team and I more than to see developments meet and maintain such high standards.”

IN THE NEWS: Thomas Armstrong (Construction) Ltd begin work on new cinema in Workington

Having been a part of this great community for so many years we are absolutely delighted to be able to confirm that we will be opening a three-screen cinema in the heart of Workington in the summer.

It will be on the top floor of John Peel House, above Wilko in the unit that was formerly Funtastic, the children’s soft play centre.

Our contractors, Thomas Armstrong, are gearing up to start work in the next week or so. They’re as committed as we are to delivering what will be a great independent family owned cinema, an asset for all generations to enjoy.

This cinema will be named The Ritz Cinema in recognition of coming full circle, back to having a cinema in the town centre.

We will be setting up a social media presence for The Ritz, so you’ll be able to keep track of our progress. We’ll post a link on the Plaza FB page once this is live and we’ll post updates on progress in the weeks to come.

After such a long period without a cinema, we are so excited we will be able to once again provide that great cinema experience we’ve all missed so much.

Immersing yourself in the latest film with a tub of fresh popcorn is so hard to beat.

IN THE NEWS: The heart-warming reason why two friends are walking 500,000 for charity

A local lady has shown her appreciation for the treatment that saved her grandads life by undertaking a 11,000 steps a day challenge to raise money for a national charity.

Rachel Stewart, from Seaton, completed the March the Month for Prostate Cancer challenge with her friend, Becky, and smashed her 300,000 step target, reaching 500,000.

They have both raised £1,500 so far for Prostate Cancer UK, but with their donation page still open, they hope to stretch that too.

The cause was close to both their hearts, as both Rachel’s grandad and Becky’s dad had prostate cancer.

“If it wasn’t for the treatment that they’ve been receiving over the years, they wouldn’t be with us today,” said Rachel.

“We decided we wanted to give something back, and we also wanted to motivate ourselves to do more exercise over lockdown as we both haven’t been walking far especially with working from home.

“With having an office job this made it more challenging to get the steps in and we had to fit time in to walk 5.5 mile per day.”
